Do you suffer with constipation? Do you smoke? Do you use commercial cleaning products, cosmetics and antiperspirants? Do you have mercury fillings? Do you eat non-organic meat and vegetables? Do you regularly use a mobile phone and/or microwave your food? Do you wear clothes that have been dry-cleaned? Do you dye your hair?
Do you suffer with any of the following symptoms?
- Sensitivity to perfumes, foods and other unexplained intolerance’s
- Chronic infections
- Persistent joint or muscle pain
- Headaches/Nausea
- Depression/Mood swings
- Fatigue
If the answer to any of these questions is YES, then you could well be suffering from a toxicity overload.
So what exactly is toxicity and how can we avoid it?
Toxicity refers to the ability of a substance to induce harmful effects. In general, all substances are toxic or poisonous; however, at normal levels, some substances are considered allowable or safe. Hence, toxicity is the level above the allowable limit. For instance, salt, if taken at normal levels, is safe, but if consumed at excessive amounts, salt may damage your kidneys and other organs.
Yet in our modern age we are surrounded by more and more toxicity. These can vary from chemicals such as pesticides on your food, preservatives in your cosmetics to aluminium in your antiperspirant. It’s important to have an awareness of how many chemicals you come into contact on a day-to-day basis. Take a minute to think about what products you use on your skin, the quality of air that you breathe, the type of foods that you eat and where they came from. The cleaning products you use in your home and on your clothes, the medications you take, the plastics you touch and maybe eat from, the type of water you drink. Think about the amount of artificial sweeteners and preservatives you ingest and the amount of radiation you are exposed to, whether it be from frequent flying, mobile phone use, microwaves and even your wireless internet!
Toxicity can affect the body in many different ways. In the most part, our liver does a lot of the work to help remove toxins from the body but can become overloaded and not function at optimal levels.
Signs that your liver might be weak include: headaches in the morning, feeling nauseous after fatty foods, waking up between 1am – 3am at night, irritable, dislike of drafts, skin blemishes, digestive problems, sugar cravings, hormone imbalance, poor memory and sensitivity to noise and smells.
How can I detox?
Well, there’s no time like the present! Start by changing what household products you use to a more natural brand (I like Ecover for cleaning products and Faith in Nature and Jason’s for shampoos and shower gels). Try to eat more organic meat and vegetables and buy a water filter. Even small, simple changes can make a big difference, not only to your body, but the environment as well! Think about what medications you take and whether they are necessary. Instead of the contraceptive pill could you use a non-chemical form of contraception? Instead of popping painkillers for a sore back, how about seeing an osteopath or chiropractor?
Using Homeopathy to detox
Homeopathy is natural, non-toxic and safe for all ages. Detoxification of toxins can be achieved through the supportive use of homeopathic medicines. Homeopathic remedies reinforce the body’s natural ability to remove toxins and waste by-products, without harmful side effects and without harsh laxatives. Remedies work by stimulating the body’s natural processes of elimination to cleanse itself of poisons, allergens and pollutants like harmful heavy metals, parasites. They can even remove toxins from stress, mental imbalances and chemical changes. Homeopathic remedies will assist in the body’s natural cleaning process by stimulating the liver, intestines, kidneys and skin to eliminate toxins from the body. The remedies will improve blood circulation, support healthy weight management, promote healthy energy levels, promote healthy skin, support healthy liver functioning, and above all support healthy immune system resulting into fewer illnesses.
The great thing about homeopathic detox is that it rebuilds and strengthens the immune system and can be incorporated with other changes. Homeopathic remedies will assist in opening the body’s main pathways of detoxification, the liver, gastrointestinal system, the lungs, the kidneys and the skin to allow toxins a way out. The remedies will further promote healing of damaged systems and restore proper functioning to sluggish or overactive systems, so that the body may be restored to a state of balance and health.
